Does a computer with a wireless connection with DSL needs a firewall?
Jamie asked:
It is an old computer that worked well with the alarm in the area, now all the Windows firewall to install the 98 block my internet connection, no matter whether the set, and I don 't want to deal with the alarm zone because most frustating me. A small antenna is connected behind the tower of the computer, and someone told me that some of them come with the firewall. The company's DSL connection is Dmax. Someone here told me that with Mozilla Firefox'm very well and it can work as a firewall but is that true?

Any internet connection, should have a firewall.

If you are running a modem and a router (you need to check out your connection hardware) then you are already running a firewall on the router more then likely.
If you are working with a modem and a hub then you most likely are not running a firewall and need one on your computer or to buy a router with a firewall built into it already.

you NEVER NEED a firewall BUT its HIGHLY recommanded, a firewall is just protection …….
you NEVER need to lock your door but you do because you want to make it harder than just opening the door to break in, a firewall is the same as a door lock (basically)

it depends on your router, but most wireless routers have a “statefull” firewall that works better than any soft firewall you put on your pc.
you should be able to configure soft firewalls so that they dont get in the way, but unless you have high security needs the wireless router should be enough to keep out the opportunist scanners that are out there

Check the manual on the wireless router and see if it doesn’t already have a firewall.
Just because you are running firefox on windows 98 does not mean that you are safe, it means that some attacks meant for Internet Explorer will not affect you.
ZoneAlarm is a great software firewall, but the one in your wireless router is probably doing most of the work.

You wireless connection has NAT. NAT is almost as good as a firewall.
Don’t worry about it.
